Founders

Frank J. Minja, MD

Frank is an Associate Professor of Radiology at Emory School of Medicine and one of the founding members of Road2IR. He has spent much of his career bringing diagnostic and interventional radiology to the developing world.

Fabian M. Laage Gaupp, MD

Fabian is an Assistant Professor at Yale School of Medicine and one of the founding members of Road2IR. He oversees and manages training, research, and logistic aspects of the IR training program in Tanzania.

Janice Newsome, MD, FSIR

Janice is an Associate Professor at Emory School of Medicine and Division Director and Chief of Interventional Radiology and Image-Guided Medicine at Emory University Hospital. She serves as the Program Director of the IR MSc program at MUHAS.

Erick Michael Mbuguje, MD

Erick is an IR attending at MUHAS and a member of the first generation of Tanzanian IR trainees. He obtained his MD and completed his radiology residency at MUHAS.

Azza Naif, MD

Azza is an IR attending at MUHAS and a member of the first generation of Tanzanian IR trainees. She obtained her MD at Hubert Kairuki Memorial University and completed her radiology residency at MUHAS.

Vijay Ramalingam, MD, FSIR

Vijay is a practicing IR at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center/Harvard Medical School in Boston, MA. He serves as co-director of the Portal Vein Thrombosis clinic and the lead for Genitourinary Tumor Ablation. He currently serves as the Director of Research for the Road2IR.


Ivan Rukundo, MD

Ivan is an IR attending in Rwanda and a member of the first generation of IR trainees in Tanzania. He obtained his MD at the National University of Rwanda and served as a medical doctor for three years before starting his radiology residency at MUHAS. He is currently working to start Rwanda’s first IR training program.

Murray Asch, MD, FRCPC, FSIR

Murray is a senior IR attending at a large community hospital in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada.  He is one of the founding members and was the second president of the Canadian Association of Interventional Radiology. He leads many of the educational and research efforts of Road2IR.
