Tanzania

The Tanzania IR training program is the pilot project of Road2IR. The training program is based out of Muhimbili National Hospital (MNH) in Dar es Salaam and sponsored by Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS), Tanzania’s flagship medical school. The program was officially certified by the Tanzanian' government in 2019 and now offers a Master of Science (MSc) in Interventional Radiology.

The MSc program is structured as a two-year long training program with three trainees per year. Trainees need to have completed a residency in diagnostic radiology prior to beginning the program. Teaching is done through a combination of in-person, hands-on training with visiting teams as well as formal didactics with regular exams. In addition to teaching the Tanzanian residents, visiting teams also train the local IR nurses and technologists.
